Hemen Amanuel: Orphaned by Systemic Neglect
Hemen Amanuel is three years old. Her father, Nurse Amanuel Kassa, gave his life caring for patients during the Marburg Virus outbreak in Jinka. Just one week later, her mother also succumbed to the same disease. Hemen clings to her father's stethoscope — a quiet, heartbreaking reminder of the parents she has lost and the heroes the system failed to protect.
Amanuel spent years fighting for the rights and safety of medical staff, striving to secure the risk allowance that was unjustly denied. His dedication cost him his life. Hemen now carries the weight of that sacrifice on her small shoulders.
Our Responsibility: Protect the Future
We cannot simply mourn Hemen's parents. We must act to make sure that no other family faces the same tragedy. Justice, protection, and care for children like Hemen must be our priority.
The system failed Amanuel. We cannot fail Hemen. It is time to stand together for her future.
